Designed an open electoral system. Grounded it in social theory, and coded an alpha implementation of it. A beta is now within sight.

Designed and coded Scheduler, a graphical appointment/resource book for a medical information system.
Delivered a demonstration build in 7 weeks, meeting the first deadline. Delivered a final build for validation by the Ministry of Health, which we passed.
Maintained Scheduler and other system modules. Optimized and enhanced the system to meet customer requirements. Scheduler remains in use today.

Discovered recombinant text, a collaborative medium of design and composition based on a mechanism of evolutionary genetics. Developed it as an open source project.
Researched the underlying theory of recombinant text. Mapped its connections with other fields. Outlined its application areas, and explored its use cases in prototype.
Coded support libraries and middleware, including Rhinohide, a Java implementation of the W3C DOM, layered over a Web browser's native JavaScript. Coded development tools, including screenpager, a desktop pager for multi-screen X workstations.
Developed the medium through 3 generations of experimental prototype. The last was the conceptual seed for project Votorola, which is my current work.

Designed an architecture to manage a large network of video devices. It cleared up a security problem that had overshadowed the venture.
It now serves as a reference architecture, and a possible candidate for implementation.

Isolated and corrected faults in the Java Swing GUI of a customer relationship management system. Coded enhancements and extensions.

Developed an architecture for the management and control of highway signs and signals, in partnership with a device manufacturer.
Installed and maintained legacy systems on contract.
Designed frameworks to communicate among controller and management nodes, and frameworks to assemble firmware and software components.
Coded a reference system with 12 components. Together they implemented device controllers for dynamic message signs, an NTCIP SNMP network, and a management GUI for operators.
Third parties could customize or extend the system to support new devices, protocols and management functions, simply by adding components.

Maintained and developed software for the management and control of highway signs and signals. Supported field technicians and customers across North America.
Developed firmware to control a new line of highway signs. Delivered a production build of the new firmware for factory testing by the State of Florida, which we passed.
Installed on site, the controllers ran flawlessly for years, without requiring a firmware upgrade.
